New York City Living 360

Design Duo Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra model their $25,000 prize.

When Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra woke up Tuesday morning morning they knew that by the evening they could possibly win a $25,000 windfall to invest in their Fall 2011 collection.  By evening that dream had come true.

Costello and Tagliapietra, competed with nine other designers for the Eco Fashion Challenge sponsored by Lexus and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).  Costello Tagliapietra, the company established by the design duo, won along with two other designers -- Monique Pean and Maria Cornejo.

If you're wondering why a luxury car company like Lexus would be concerned about ecology and fashion you only need to visit Lexus Hybrid Living (lexushybridliving.com), a site dedicated to showcasing the eco-luxury community.

The eco-fashion competition was dedicated to finding designers who were  committed to ecologically responsible design and production practices.  Designers had to have 25% of their collection produced in an environmentally friendly manner.

A panel of judges selected the three winners based on design credibility, business acumen, and eco-commitment, with attention paid to eco fabrics, materials, processes and packaging.

“It was hard to select only three winners from the ten amazing finalists,” says Andrea Lim, Lexus events marketing manager. “Lexus is proud to support the efforts of the selected designers as they work to bring sustainability into the fashion industry.”

New York City Living 360

TLC's GeorgeDuran will host New York Chocolate Show 2010

13th New York Chocolate Show Sweetens City

The scent of chocolate will be filling the Metropolitan Pavilion this week as chocolate experts bring their pots and pans to cook up some confectionery concoctions to make your mouth water.  George Duran, host of TLC’s “The Ultimate Cake Off” and World Chocolate Masters will host the four-day chocolate extravaganza, featuring pastry chefs from Food Network and Bravo, elaborate chocolate displays by The French Culinary Institute and appearances by candy celebrities of the New York scene.  Dylan Lauren of the famous  Dylan’s Candy Bar, will be participating for the first time,  promoting her new book  "Unwrap Your Sweet Life" at the Barnes & Nobles booth, along with other foodie favorite authors.

Looking for the secret recipe for the perfect chocolate chip cookie? Join Jerome Chang and Vincent Jaoura, owners of Dessert Truck, at the show and learn their trade secrets.  Ever hear of Chocolate Cream Pie "on its side?"  Zac Young, pastry chef at Flex Mussels, will demonstrate how it's done.  And if you’re looking for holiday dessert ideas, you're in luck. Jean-Georges’ Executive Pastry Chef and lead judge on “Top Chef: Just Desserts,” Johnny Iuzzini will demonstrate how to make four-star desserts at home. The chefs will hold court in two "theaters" where you can watch them make their magic.

You don’t have feel guilty if you’re tempted to go for all four days and gorge yourself sampling the sensual siren that makes us chocoholics against our will!  Blame it on Sylvie Douce and Francois Jeantet, two French entrepreneurs and chocolate lovers who came up with this decadent idea, which is the largest show in the US dedicated to chocolate.

Dylan Lauren of Dylan's Candy Bar autographs her new book "Unwrap Your Sweet Life"

For the 13th time they have created a tantalizing exhibition rounding up 65 fine chocolate companies who will present a diverse array of fine chocolates and chocolate-inspired products. And if you feel too guilty to do it for yourself then do it for the children.  The show will spotlight a Kid’s Zone, dedicated to fun-filled activities for young chocolate lovers.

The Chocolate Show runs from Thursday, November 11 through Sunday, November 14.  Visit the website for more information:  http://newyork.salon-du-chocolat.com/
